Route 66 to the Grand Canyon is an exciting new play commissioned by Theatrikos Theatre Company of Flagstaff. Here is an insight to the writer’s approach to this fun story.
Route 66 to the Grand Canyon is a new form of play based in part on the British theatrical tradition of “end-of-the-pier-shows.” A comedy, farce-like, for the family, full of groaner jokes, built around place with involvement of the audience focusing on Route 66, Flagstaff, and the Grand Canyon.
The play includes a play-within-a play which thanks to the support of Jeremy Blunt, ED at Theatrikos we can incorporate the spectacle of walk-in-front puppets, fun, inventive and family orientated characters. Performances will be in Flagstaff and in venues across AZ in 2026. This is going to promise a fun, informative, and dynamic evening of entertainment in a new kind of play experience.
“When over in Florida, Mary and I, had a chance to meet up with Chris Verrill who was responsible for the theatre here in Flagstaff commissioning me to write the play. Chris is now running a commercial theatre in Florida at Fort Myers.”
